How to Measure Your Nails for Press-On Nails

Press-on nail measurement guide showing how to measure the widest part of each natural nail

A good press-on nail fit starts with accurate measurements. Measuring each natural nail helps you choose a standard size confidently and reduces the need for filing or reshaping after your set arrives.

What You Need

  • A soft measuring tape marked in millimeters, or a strip of clear tape or paper
  • A fine-tip pen
  • A ruler marked in millimeters
  • A place to record all ten measurements

How to Measure Each Nail

  1. Place the measuring tape across the widest part of the natural nail.
  2. Measure from one sidewall to the other, following the curve of the nail.
  3. Record the width in millimeters.
  4. Repeat for every nail on both hands. The matching fingers on your left and right hands may not be exactly the same width.

If you do not have a soft measuring tape, place clear tape or a narrow paper strip across the widest part of the nail. Mark both sidewalls, remove the strip, and measure the distance between the marks with a ruler.

JULA CLAW Standard Sizes

Size Thumb Index Middle Ring Pinky
XS 14 mm 10 mm 11 mm 10 mm 8 mm
S 15 mm 11 mm 12 mm 11 mm 9 mm
M 16 mm 12 mm 13 mm 12 mm 10 mm
L 17 mm 13 mm 14 mm 13 mm 11 mm

What If You Are Between Sizes?

Choose the slightly larger standard size and gently file the side edges for a closer fit. A press-on nail that is too narrow can feel uncomfortable and may not sit correctly across the natural nail.

When to Choose Custom Sizing

Custom sizing may be useful when your measurements do not align closely with one standard set or when the two hands differ significantly. Record the measurements from left thumb to left pinky, then right thumb to right pinky.
